● Open to individuals and teams aged 13–24 years.
● Participants may be anyone including students, independent filmmakers, or emerging artists. Amateurs or Professionals.
● Professionals: For working filmmakers with professional equipment and past project experience.
● Amateurs: For aspiring storytellers, open to experimenting with any device as they hone their craft.
● For filmmakers exploring vertical storytelling, using any device that suits their vision.
1. The 48 Hour Filmmaking Challenge is open to participants from across the globe.
2. Filmmaking hours are scheduled to begin from Friday, 24 October, 2025 | 8:00 PM IST (GMT+5:30) to Sunday, 26th October, 2025 | 10:00 PM IST (GMT+5:30).
3. Team members will receive the theme online on Footprint’s Instagram,
as well as on the registered Team Leader’s Email ID and WhatsApp.
4. Along with the theme, 5 to 7 different genres will be provided.
Teams are allowed to choose any one genre.
5. A compulsory element will be given to the team at the beginning of the challenge i.e
on 24th October, 2025 | 8:00 PM IST (India Standard Time). It should be subtly included in the film.
6. The film can be in any language. All films, regardless of language, must have English subtitles
7. All team members must be volunteers, meaning they are participating without receiving payment for
their services. This ensures the spirit of the challenge remains focused on creativity and collaboration.
8. The team can have a minimum of 1 person and a maximum of 6 people, excluding actors. E-certificates will be awarded only to registered team members and sent to the
email address provided during registration.
9. A notional amount of Rs.100 (inclusive of GST) will be charged to all Registrants.
Once participation is confirmed, refunds will not be issued.
1. Duration of the final film (Vertical): 1-2 minutes.
2. Teams must use a film camera or a mobile camera at least 1080p video capture.
3. Aspect Ratio 9:16 (VERTICAL orientation)
4. Films containing watermarks from editing software will not be considered.
5. All films, regardless of language, must have English subtitles. You can use tools like aegisub.org, Dubverse.ai, or any other suitable software to create your subtitles.
6. Teams are encouraged to collaborate with local composers and musicians to create original music for their films. Teams may use pre-recorded music if they have the necessary rights. Royalty-free music is also permitted. If using copyrighted music, usage is limited to a maximum of 15 seconds,
and the composer and music link must be credited in the end credits.
7. Teams cannot use stock footage or footage created earlier.
Photographs can be used in a film only if the team has the rights to use them.
8. End credits are limited to a maximum of 60 seconds.
These 60 seconds are in addition to the maximum film length for your category.
9. The teams should use the ‘Opening Slide’ (i.e., FFF2025 Title Slate) provided to the team leaders along with the theme. Opening titles are considered part of the film and count towards the total duration. Order: FFF 2025 Title Slate (provided at the beginning of the challenge) – 1 second of blank – 3 seconds of black slate with Film Name – Your movie.
10. The final video must be uploaded in MP4/MOV/MPEG-4 format. The uploaded video should be in 1080p and strictly below 2 GB. All file names should be your Creator ID.
For instance, if your Creator ID is TA2140, your files should be TA2140.mp4 (Film)
1. Participants must submit their film via the upload link provided to the Team Leader. The upload link will be sent as soon as the challenge begins.
2. Along with uploading the film, teams must sign and submit the Creator’s Agreement online, which will be sent with the theme email. Sample Creator Agreement can be viewed here please note that we will be sending a link to sign the agreement at the team leader’s registered email address.
3. Teams are ideally expected to keep 48 hours for filmmaking and 2 hours for upload. For teams genuinely unable to upload their films within the 48-hour period due to technical reasons, a 4-hour extension will be provided. However, to maintain fairness, films uploaded past the 50-hour deadline will face score deductions: 0 to 1 hour late: 5%; 1 to 2 hours late: 7.5%; 2 to 4 hours late: 10%.
Evaluation criteria will theme adherence, compulsory element inclusion, storytelling,
creativity, technical quality, originality, etc.
1. The film must not contain any material that violates personal rights, religious beliefs, incites violence, makes derogatory remarks about someone’s sexuality or belief, invades privacy, or infringes on the rights of any person, firm, or entity.
2. Teams are requested to keep the original footage and project files for three years after submission. FootPrint may choose to broadcast these films on television and in theaters, requiring the highest quality.
3. FootPrint may add to or amend these rules at any time
before the filmmaking period begins without prior notice.
4. FootPrint and project partners, at their sole discretion,
can disqualify any film deemed inappropriate or non-compliant.

Prelims:
The registered teams (comprising 2 members each)
will get to square off in the first or preliminary round to be held
from 10:30 AM to 12 PM at the Amphitheatre, IGNCA, Janpath, New Delhi.
Finals:
6 teams will qualify for the final round followed by the award ceremony to be held from 2:30 PM - 4:00 pm at the Amphitheatre, IGNCA, Janpath, New Delhi.

Judging and Prizes:
3 top teams in the finals will get prizes from Penguin Random House,
along with participation certificates for all finalists.

Submission Process
a) Online Application Form: Interested filmmakers must complete the official application form below. This form collects essential details including the film’s title, director’s name, year of production, genre, duration, language, Poster and a short synopsis.
b) Submission email: Films should be submitted via email to the address provided in the submission/registration form.
c) Submission Format: Please share the film in MP4 (H.264 codec format) to footprintfilmfest2025@gmail.com
d) Submission Deadline: The deadline for film submissions has been extended to is 22nd September 2025
e) Submission Fee: A non-refundable submission fee of ₹250/- is applicable for each entry.
f) Acknowledgement: FootPrint will send acknowledgement to all the filmmakers who submit their entries, within one week of the submission deadline.
Age Limit: Participants must be between 13 and 24 years of age.
Entries open to filmmakers from all over the country and worldwide.
Festival Format: This is a non-competitive short film festival and hence only short films should be submitted. The entries can be short digital animation films too on the topic.
Entry Film Requirement Categories
Categories: The various categories under which the films need to be submitted are
1) Documentary 2) Animation 3) Science Fiction 4) Fiction 5) Films made on Mobile Phones
Themes: Environment and Climate change, Livelihoods, Gender, Learning and Education, Civil Rights, Art, Craft and Heritage, Peoples’ Stories, Collaboration, Wildlife, Technology.
Duration:The films shall not be more than 20 (Twenty) minutes, including the beginning and end credits. Films exceeding this time limit are liable to be rejected. The minimum length should be 1 (One) minute including credits.
Production Period The film should have been shot / completed after 1st January 2024.
Language:The short films may be in their original language but must be subtitled in English. Films submitted previously to any other festival should be clearly mentioned as such.
Selection Process
a) Expert Jury:FootPrint will assemble a jury of esteemed filmmakers, artists, and authors.
b) Film Selection: The jury will carefully curate the selection of films by 16th October, 2025
c) The jury's decision will be final and no changes will be considered.
Announcement of Selected Films: Selected filmmakers will be notified via email, and the program will be showcased on both the FootPrint website and our social media platforms.
FILM FORMAT: The films may be shot in MPEG4 or AVI format. The recommended ratios are: 16:9 / 16:9 Full Height Anamorphic – in DV / HDV.
RIGHT TO SCREEN: The participants grant the organizers the non-exclusive rights to screen (non-commercial) their film/entry on their website, at the festival, on YouTube channel, any other digital platforms and venue associated with the event.
COPYRIGHT: The Film must not contain any copyrighted work(s) belonging to third parties unless (1) Participants have a license to use such works in the Film; or (2) the use participants’ Film makes of such works is a fair one under the copyright laws. Participants will retain any licenses and provide them to organizers upon request.
ORIGINALITY AND PERMISSIONS; INDEMNITY: Films must be the original work of the applicants. If a film is based upon another person’s life or upon a book or other underlying work, applicant(s) must secure any necessary rights to make such adaptations. However, it is not necessary to submit the adaptation rights agreements to the festival. Neither the Festival nor its jurists investigate or attests to the authenticity of an applicant’s statement of authorship or rights secured. By entering the competition, you represent that you have secured all necessary rights.
Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in their films, including but not limited to music, trademarks, logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. Footprint Film festival expressly disclaims all liability or responsibility for any violations of the foregoing.
GENERAL TERMS OF PARTICIPATION
1)The entry should be submitted by the Participant who may be the rights holder of the film or the person authorized to participate in the contest and accept the terms and conditions. For the purposes of this contest and subsequent distribution of the participating film, the Participant hereby confirms that he/she/it has the necessary rights to submit the entry and accept the terms.
2)Only the person who submits the entry will be considered as the “Participant”.
3)The participants agree that the organizers shall not be held responsible for any unauthorized use of the content by any third party and organizers do not guarantee the posting of any content.
4)The decision of the jury shall be final, unquestionable and binding on all participants. Once submitted, the entries cannot be withdrawn for any reason whatsoever. Organizers may reject any film without assigning any reason whatsoever and the same cannot be challenged.
5)All materials, documents, etc. (not the film) submitted for participation shall not be returned under any circumstances and shall become the property of the organizers.
6)The organizers reserve the right to modify the terms and conditions of the festival without any intimation to the participants at any time after the launch of the contest. Entry and participation of films implies unconditional acceptance of these terms and regulations.
7)Organizers’ decision in all matters pertaining to this festival and screening terms herein shall be final and binding in all respects.
