FACILITATOR: DR HEMA RAMANATHAN
At the Footprint Film Festival 2021, the workshop on SCRIPTWRITING: FROM TELL TO SHOW provided an overview of how to take an idea and build it into a screenplay.
In this workshop, Take 2: Scriptwriting - From Tell to Show, we will review the five stages of scriptwriting and explore the features and purposes of each stage. We will then focus on Stage 4 - Treatment/Script. We will watch one of the film entries to the festival and draw from it what the Treatment/Script should have been. Maybe you can give the director some ideas of how this could have been shot differently, and better!
Appropriate for all groups.
When: 3rd July, 2022
Time: 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
FACILITATOR: NILANJAN CHOWDHURY
We hope to discuss and explore the relationship between journalism and documentary filmmaking during this workshop at the Footprint Film Festival 2022. Using a few insights from my experiences as a news producer and a filmmaker ,we try to look at how journalism and documentaries have often complemented each other yet existed as separate entities. But these days, where almost everyone has access to basic film making tools and everyone is striving to get viewers and "likes" in the real world and the virtual one, both journalists and filmmakers are often using the same tools and releasing their content on similar platforms. Beyond just documentation of facts and events, it's a good story that everyone wants.
Appropriate for a younger age group.
When: 2nd July, 2022
Time: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Hema Ramanathan firmly believes that the arts encourage students to channel their energies in constructive forms and provide a non-verbal vocabulary for expression. She is a life-long student of the arts, a constructively critical audience, and preferably a behind-the-scenes organizer rather than an on-stage performer. As a teacher and teacher educator for over 40 years, she has included the arts as a process and a product in her pedagogy: interpreting literature through films and storytelling, and performing poetry with music.
